Russell Brand is great at being “Russell Brand” and this film is a showcase just for him. He does his usual nonstop verbal acrobatics and it’s quite funny. He does show some range in this but I know he can do better, or maybe he doesn’t want to, he’s just satisfied being himself, which is ok, it works. A remake of the 1981 film by the same name which starred Dudley Moore, “Arthur” is the perfect vehicle for Russell to let loose and go crazy with his antics. Being a Billionaire he gets to do pretty much anything he wants. He is foolish, naïve and lovable and even the NYPD take pity on him. The supporting players give some weight to this film, which include Jennifer Garner, Nick Nolte, Greta Girwig and the fabulous Helen Mirren. There is chemistry between the three leads but it’s all predictable and passable. There are a couple of laugh out loud moments in the film and if you like Russell Brands comedy than you’ll enjoy Arthur. It’s a good film but I’d wait for the DVD, there are better movies to catch up on. If you haven’t seen “Source Code” or “Limitless” check out the reviews below, you won’t want to miss these two awesome films.
